The government’s National Plan to End Homelessness - our response

The Youth Chapter Collective’s response to the Government’s National Plan to End Homelessness
The Youth Chapter Collective welcomes the publication of the Government’s new Homelessness Strategy and is delighted to see a dedicated focus on young people in the National Plan to End Homelessness. For too long, young people have been overlooked in national homelessness policy, so the inclusion of a specific youth section marks an important and long-awaited step forward.
We particularly welcome the commitment to invest in evidence-based prevention through targeted work in schools, plans to develop a dedicated chapter on young people in the Homelessness Code of Guidance to better clarify the obligations of local authorities, as well as the recent Budget announcement that eases the financial cliff-edge for young people in work who are in supported housing.
However, we are concerned that the funding announced in the strategy does not go far enough to address the structural drivers of homelessness or guarantee that sufficient social housing will be delivered to meet the unique needs of young people - and we call on the Government to urgently address this.
We look forward to working closely with Government to turn this strategy into meaningful action, supported by the funding needed to make a real difference and led by the voices of young people.
